  • ҹɫè’s Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) is designed to prepare graduates who are confident to teach children in prior to school settings and P-3 classrooms.
  • With regular opportunities to engage with current educators and industry, in both early childhood settings and school contexts, you’ll be able to cross the gap between theory and practice. ҹɫè graduates are highly sought after and employable in both prior to school settings and early childhood classrooms.
  • Do you already have an early childhood qualification from TAFE or another recognised provider? ҹɫè may be able to offer you recognition for prior learning to help you complete your degree faster.

Professional accreditation

As a graduate, you are prepared to support the learning of children from birth to eight years of age, which means you are eligible to apply for teacher registration through the . To be eligible for registration in Queensland, both domestic and international students are required to attend the majority of placements in settings within Australia.  

In addition to completing all requirements for the degree, students need to pass the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) prior to graduation. It's recommended that students pass the LANTITE before the successful completion of 16 courses. Please register for the LANTITE test through the (ACER) website.

This program is approved with the (ACECQA) and the (QCT).

Career outcomes

  • As a graduate, you will be well qualified for employment in traditional and diverse roles ranging from early learning centres to kindergartens and P-3 classrooms in primary schools in Queensland, as well as elsewhere in Australia and in many overseas jurisdictions, subject to local requirements.

Entry requirements

  • Subject pre-requisites: English (Units 3 & 4, C); General Maths, Mathematical Methods, or Specialist Maths (Units 3 & 4, C), or equivalent. 

Note: You must be able to meet the physical and other professional requirements of professional experience placements in Australian early childhood and day care settings within this degree.

English language requirements

To meet the English language requirements for this degree, we accept the combined level and duration of study specified below, or the minimum English language proficiency scores from one of the following tests. Your test must be completed within two years of applying to ҹɫè. 

Tertiary study
(Diploma level or higher)
 3+ years full-time tertiary study in a country from the Accepted English-speaking countries list.
IELTS (Academic)  Minimum overall score of 7.5, with a minimum of 8.0 in speaking and listening, and a minimum of 7.0 in reading and writing. 
International Second Language Proficiency Ratings (ISLPR) A rating of at least 4 in each of the skill areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Please note that the assessment must be completed at an approved testing site.
Professional English Assessment for Teachers (PEAT) Assessment of A in all four areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

If you have a current Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) provisional or full registration you automatically meet the English language requirements for this degree.

Teacher registration is the responsibility of jurisdictional authorities and the specifications for English Language requirements are set out under the .

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

If you have previously studied in your home country, you may be eligible for recognition of prior learning to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.

Professional experience

You will also need to complete 90 days of professional experience to gain valuable practice in prior to school settings and classrooms working with babies, toddlers, infants and young children.

All students within this degree must be able to meet the professional requirements expected of teachers and early childhood professionals.
